■ Michael Choukas Jr. '51 has been appointed to the new position of director of alumni affairs, John C. Harned '50, vice president of alumni and public affairs, has announced. Choukas will haveresponsibility for all alumni communications and activities. According to Harned, the new appointment will strengthen alumni affairs and allow other administrators greater concentration in development activities. Reporting to Harned are J. Michael McGean '49, recently reappointed as secretary of the alumni, and John Heston '54, director of alumni communications; Choukas will also be responsible for the College News Service, directed by Alex Huppe. Reporting to McGean are associate secretaries David E. Orr '57, director of regional affairs; James M. Tonkovich '68, director of class affairs; and Steven L. Calvert '6B, director of alumni continuing education. Nancy L. Elliott, director of special alumni services, will also be reporting to McGean.
■ The Dartmouth Institute for Better Health has received a $790,750 grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation to administer, with the American Red Cross and the American Association for Retired Persons, a nationwide health promotion program for older Americans. The program will set up workshops to train volunteers to teach a selfcare course for older people around the country. The intent is to improve senior citizens' health habits and lifestyles, to teach them to use the resources of the health care system in the best manner, and to help them communicate better with health professionals. The courses will meet in 13 two-hour sessions, and the expectation is that 4,000 older people will be reached over the three-year period of the grant.
