The Dartmouth Sea Pack
June 1961

A letter from Sam Packer '47 reports that a large number of Dartmouth alumni of the vintage of '46 and '47 are serving with the Submarine Force Atlantic Fleet; and he lists seven Lieutenant Commanders USN whom he knows to be in command of a submarine. The seven are:

Bob Bade '46, USS Amber jack; Pete Freeman '46 (later U. S. Naval Academy), USS Searobin; Karl Becker '47, USS Grouper; Len Kojm '47, USS Seapoacher; Steve O'Leary '47, USS Corporal; Sam Packer '47, USS Harder; and Lloyd VanLunen '47, USS Sealeopard.

Three of these commanders - Bade, O'Leary and Packer - are all in the same submarine division, home-ported in Charleston, S. C. In the accompanying picture, Packer (right) is playing host to O'Leary aboard the Harder and is hearing about the latter's recent Mediterranean cruise.
