Alumni returning to the Thayer School this fall may expect to find many changes on the faculty roll. New appointees who have been welcomed to Hanover include:
Dr. George A. Colligan, Associate Professor of Engineering, who came to Thayer School from the Research Laboratories of the United Aircraft Corporation. Dr. Colligan's special field of interest includes solidification, metallography, and metal-ceramic reactions. . . . Dr. Robert Edgerton, Assistant Professor of Engineering, who has done extensive research in the fields of heat transfer and fluid dynamics at the University of Connecticut and Cornell. . . . Dr. Robert B.Evans, Research Associate, from UCLA where he has been active in sea-water re- search since 1957. . . . Dr. Sidney Lees, Pro- fessor of Engineering, currently president of Lees Instrument Research, Inc., and for- merly Research Associate and Assistant Pro- fessor in the Aeronautical Engineering De- partment, MIT. . . . Dr. Graham B. Wallis, Assistant Professor of Engineering, who has arrived at Thayer School via MIT and Cam- bridge University. He has most recently been a Research Fellow with the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority. . . . Dr.Paul F. Gugliotta, Visiting Professor of Civil Engineering, who is a partner in the firm of luster & Gugliotta, architects, engineers, and planners. New York City. He has stud- ied under Professor Pier Luigi Nervi, de- signer of the Dartmouth Field House, in Rome where he also worked on traffic stud- ies, housing projects, and building construc- tion. . . . Mr. Frederick J. Sanger, Visiting Professor of Civil Engineering, who will teach a course in Soil Mechanics and Foun- dations this fall. Mr. Sanger is associated with the Cold Regions Research and En- gineering Laboratory in Hanover.
Familiar faces among the faculty which will be missing this year are: Russ Steams ’3B, who is on a leave working with Opera- tions Research, Inc., Silver Spring, Md. . . . T. Y. Chen, who has resigned to accept a position in the Civil Engineering Depart- ment of the University of Ohio. We know that T. Y. commences this new assignment with the sincere and affectionate good wishes of all of his former students and colleagues. . . . Carl F. Long, who is continuing his work on his doctorate at Yale but will be returning to Hanover in December. . . . BUIKimball ’29, who will be away for another year working on the development of the new curriculum in Environmental Engineer- ing.
A letter from Art Feinstein ’6l announces the arrival of Miriam Golda last March and the family’s new address. Art resigned his position with the Department of Resources in California to accept a position with Harza in Chicago. According to our records, JohnScoville ’55 is also at Harza.
Henry Robbins ’6l is starting his second year at MIT where he is studying for a de- gree in Industrial Administration. Henry spent this last summer in France on a bicy- cle tour with his brother Laurrie who is entering Dartmouth this fall.
Jim Decker ’53 has been spending the last few months in Greece engaged in mak- ing a major transportation survey for the city of Athens, the first study of its kind in Greece.
At the Information Theory Course held in Thayer School this summer, Thayer alumni were represented by Peter Gulick ME’59,Art Williams, Bill Kimball, and John Cer-nius EE’54. Peter is working on a Digital System Design for Military Command and Control Systems and his employer is the Mitre Corporation, Bedford, Mass.
Martin Anderson TT’5B has completed his Ph.D. work at MIT and will teach in the Columbia Business Administration Grad- uate School this fall.
Phil Hinkle ’6O stopped by in June and reported that he was with the Rocky Moun- tain Bell System.
