Bob Monahan '60 was co-author of a technical paper presented at the 17th International Engineering Conference held in Montreal October 15-18. The paper was entitled "The Design of Manifold Systems for Paper Machine Headboxes" and was prepared by Bob and other research specialists at the Oxford Paper Company, Oxford, Maine. Miss Ann Elliot of Bridgewater, Va., became Mrs. Robert Monahan on June 30.
On September 8, Miss Mee Soon Shin became the bride of Yong Suk Chae '57 at Ann Arbor, Mich.
A feature article in the Bayside Times, Bayside, N. J., describes a prospectus for a marina in Little Neck Bay prepared by consulting engineer Stephen M. Olko '48. Steve has had very broad experience in the design of waterfront facilities both at home and abroad. In an attached note, Steve mentions that he is currently busy on a fallout shelter study for the U.S. Army.
Don Baker '62, who is with the Public Health Service in the New York Regional Office, writes that he is enjoying his assignment. He is working on a Bomb Assessment Survey aimed at locating and describing vulnerable parts of larger water supply systems in the United States. We are anticipating a visit from Don as soon as the Dartmouth Skiway announces the opening of the '62-63 season!
Doug Keare '57 has accepted a Princeton National Fellowship and is presently at Princeton pursuing a course of study leading to Ph.D. degree in economics.
At the 1962 Annual Conference of the New England Student Chapters of the ASCE held at Norwich University on Ma) 19, first prize in the Student Paper Competition was awarded to Neil Drobny '63 for his paper entitled "An Investigation of the Effects of Paddle Design on Flocculation." Neil is presently a second-year student in civil engineering, president of the DSE at Thayer, and is studying under one of our research fellowships. Neil's winning paper was prepared last spring as a project in Fluid Mechanics.
John Minnich '29, now "Adjunct" Professor of Civil Engineering, lists his home address as Notre Dame du Portage, P. Q. Nevertheless, John expects to be in Hanover most of the time after the close of the hunting season in Canada and will have an office here at Thayer School. On November 3 he will address a joint meeting of the N. H„ Vt., Mass., and Maine sections of the ASCE gathering in Hanover for an inspection of the new Dartmouth Field House and the Hopkins Center.
In case some of you have not yet seen the article, there is a fine story, together with pictures and plans, of the new Field House designed by Pier Luigi Nervi in the August 2, 1962 issue of Engineering News Record. As these notes go to press, the final section of the Field House roof is being placed and it is expected that dedication exercises will be held there November 18.
