On our way through New Jersey, heading for a convention at Atlantic City, Harriet and I had a very pleasant stopover with Len and Dottie Clark in Verona, N.J. The Clarks were baby sitting over the weekend for their granddaughter "Shelly" while their daughter Ginger and her hubby Doug Keare '56 were in Hanover for house party weekend and the Penn game. As usual, we had a wonderful time with them.

We missed Frank and Gwen Hodson in Montclair due to the fact that they were on a trip to Europe. Hope you'll give me a brief summary of the trip, kids, so I can put it in the next column.

It isn't often that we get word from you fellows on the West coast, so when we do we like to make a big fuss about it. There fore, Jim Rice, when Johnnie Benson received your letter and read it he was good enough to mail it to me as material for the column. However, since Bill Benger is not as space limited as I am in his Newsletter I'll mail it on to him so he can do justice to the news about you by probably reproducing it in its entirety. Thanks for taking time out to write to us. Jim and Donna's daughter Patricia was married on September 20 which was the Rices' twenty-first wedding anniversary. What a nice thing for Pat to do, and incidentally the picture shows her to be a real little beauty.

Congratulations are in order for BaxterBall who has been named Vice President for Marketing for Mobil Oil Company, the operating division for Socony Mobil Oil Company, Inc., in the United States and Canada. Baxter became a salesman with General Petroleum Corporation, then Socony Mobil's west coast affiliate, immediately after graduation. In 1953 he was made general sales manager for General Petroleum, and in 1957 was elected a director. The next year he moved across the continent to New York as general sales manager of Mobil Oil. Baxter commutes in from Boulder Brook Road in Greenwich.

Thank goodness for the fact that class dues bills go out once a year because this is at least one way for many of you to scribble short notes on the bill when you pay them and return them to Johnnie.

One such note was from Nick Nickum in Seattle (which is where Jim Rice is from also) who asks why more of us haven't been out to the World's Fair. Another came from big Bill Schuldenfrei who reports that "all's well with the Schuldenfreis." Pete Evans out in Flint, Mich., jotted down some political advice for Johnnie to absorb.

A real long shot return was from DonEwing whose address is American Embassy, Tananarive, Madagascar. Don's note says "It seems good to hear from a classmate even when he's asking for money when one is this far from home." Getting notes from fellows in other parts of the world who take time out to drop a note about them selves, and incidentally to pay their dues, makes me want to continue to give my time to be secretary and to write these class notes. Hope more of you will follow Don's example.

Ernie Moore sent in some items one of which was a newspaper article headed "Boston Society to Dine at Suffolk Downs" and listing Dr. and Mrs. Robert Barker as guests. Suffolk Downs has just had a terrific "face lifting and remodelling and expansion job" performed, and I am pleased because it's all heated by good old Boston Gas Company's gas, and I had the satisfaction of negotiating the contract. Hope you folks were warm enough, Bob.

Also enclosed in Ernie's letter was a photo taken either in 1930 or 1931 that might or might not reproduce satisfactorily in the column - will try it next month. It's a humdinger and shows Ernie, Jack Bean,Ward Thompson, Dick Chase and John McDonough all appropriately dressed and in the right mood for the class outing, I guess.

More notes on dues payments to JohnnieBenson are from Bill Steck who was at the Penn game and visiting his son Pete in whose room in New Hampshire dormitory "we usually have a picnic lunch before the game - join us!"; Dutch Holland, Joe Merriam, Jim Rick, Bill Wendell, "Beany"Thorn who took time out to thank Johnnie for all the work he is doing for our' Class as treasurer (and I personally can add that John is doing many other beneficial thines in Dartmouth's interest) and Parker Soule.

Several months ago Dick and MargaretHolbrook left one of Dick's very clever calling cards in our door and needless to say we were mighty disappointed to have missed them. Try us again, kids, but just drop a note ahead of time so we'll be sure to be home.

A letter from Bunce Clarkson regarding some class business matters states that he met Wes Dingman from Princeton, Mass., at a meeting of the enrollment group in his area. Guess our classmates do pretty well in pitching-in in many ways for Dartmouth.

For those of you who didn't happen to see the "A Wah Hoo Wah for" listing it is appropriate to mention here that CharlesE. Rhetts was named by President Kennedy to be U.S. Ambassador to Liberia and a good Wah Hoo in the October ALUMNI MAGAZINE for it. Congratulations, Ed! We'd appreciate some news about your doings from way out yonder.

Every time John "Henkle" and Alice Reno get together with us, Harriet and I have such a good time that the fun we experience and the pleasant thoughts that develop stick with us for a long time and we love them.

We had a very unexpected and wonderful visit from them a few days ago and we enjoyed every minute of it. Thank goodness they have relatives in these parts who attract them back here every so often! The attraction around Boston might soon become greater .because their daughter Lynne might be going to school here - we'll be hoping like mad that she does.

At the Harvard game last Saturday we had good seats right amongst a whole bunch of '30 and '31's, most of whom were familiar faces even if the names weren't. Needless to say that between being amongst a good group and winning the game we had a pleasant day at the stadium. Sitting right in our group were Frank Blatz, DickChase, Bunce Clarkson, Jim Godfrey, EdHanauer, "Mat" Matteson and Hank Russell. Jack Bean and Dick Fisher were at the game, but we didn't see them - we're pretty griped at you Fishers for coming all the way from Wisconsin without letting us know so some of your old gang could have arranged to meet you. "Matt" was on vacation and was wending his way leisurely ddwn to Miami - smart fellow.

Too soon ve get old - too late ve get schmardt!
