WITH THE BIG GREEN TEAMS
April 1962

THE 1961-62 winter sports season is now only a memory. The wrestling team, with four wins, three losses, and one tie, stood alone as a winner in a season that was a rough one for Dartmouth athletes. The basketball team finished with a 6-18 record and was tied for sixth in the Ivy League, while the hockey team fared little better with an 8-12 mark and a tie for third in the league.

But when the 1961-62 season is remembered in the years to come, alumni will still find plenty to talk about. They will need only to recall the exploits of Steve Spahn in basketball, Dave Leighton in hockey, Gerry Ashworth in track, and Terry Bentley in swimming to re- member that there is a silver lining even to a losing season.

And in a winter that was void of league championships, Dartmouth alumni can take pride in the ski team which captured the Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Title and as this is written is heading west for the NCAA Championships. The skiers were defeated only once in five carnival engagements for- the best winter record of all.

With spring just around the corner and the snow fast melting on the Hanover golf course, however, let's take one last look at winter sports, for next month the cry will be, "Play ball!"
