SHARING the Commencement speaking honors with Mr. Dean will be a Dartmouth senior, James T. Hale '62 of Wayzata, Minn., who has been chosen to deliver the valedictory for the graduating class. The son of Thomas T. Hale '33, he is a Phi Beta Kappa student with a nearperfect academic record, and is a Senior Fellow in the field of sociology.

Hale is the holder of an Alfred P. Sloan National Scholarship. In addition to his brilliant academic work he has many interests outside the classroom and is a member of the UGC Judiciary Committee, the Canoe Club, the Christian Union, Casque and Gauntlet, and Phi Delta Alpha fraternity. He also played freshman football.

A third major speaker during the Commencement weekend will be Basil O'Connor '12, president of the National Foundation, who will deliver the traditional 50-Year Address at the program following the Commencement Dinner on Saturday, June 9. Mr. O'Connor, senior partner in the New York law firm of O'Connor and Farber, is one of Dartmouth's most distinguished graduates and is nationally known as the leader of the successful fight against polio. He was in law partnership with Franklin D. Roosevelt from 1925 to 1933, served as president of the American Red Cross from 1944 to 1949, and is the recipient of a long string of honors for his public service. His services to Dartmouth College have also been numerous over the years.

The Class of 1912 is one of four "Old Guard" classes — 1897, 1902, 1907, and 1912 - that will be holding reunions during the Commencement weekend, June 8-10. During the ensuing Reunion Week, the Classes of 1922, 1926, 1927, and 1928 will hold reunions from Monday through Wednesday, June 11-13; the 25-Year Class of 1937 will begin its four-day reunion on Thursday, June 14; and during the remainder of the week, Friday through Sunday, June 15-17, the Classes of 1946, 1947, 1948, and 1952 will be back.

The 1962 Hanover Holiday program, featuring Dartmouth professors and panelists from the Class of 1937, will be held from Monday through Friday of the Reunion Week. The Dartmouth Alumni Council will also be in Hanover for its annual meeting, June 13-15.

A new feature of reunions this year will be the First Annual Alumni Golf Tournament. The contest of 18-hole medal play on the Hanover course, June 10-16, is open to all alumni, with a winner named for each reunion class and an overall alumni champion also designated. Golf coach Tommy Keane will be in charge, and handicaps, when certified, will be allowed.
