A SCHOLARSHIP FUND in memory of the Late Robert L. Fitts '15 has been established at the Dartmouth Medical School for the purpose of giving financial aid to deserving medical students. The $50,000 endowment fund is the gift of a charitable trust of which Mr. Fitts was a trustee for many years. The first awards provided by its income will be made in 1963-64, with preference given "to New England boys and girls, particularly those from rural areas."
Robert L. Fitts, a paper company executive, died in December 1961. He was a native of Brattleboro, Vt., and resided at Osterville, Mass., at the time of his death. Mr. Fitts practiced law in Brattleboro from 1919 to 1928 and then entered the paper manufacturing field. He was president of the Southern Advance Bag & Paper Co. for many years, and in 1955 was elected vice-president of the Robert Gair Co., in Boston, when the two companies merged. At the time of his retirement in 1957 he was vicepresident and director of the Continental Can Co., with which the Gair Co. had merged in 1956.
Mr. Fitts was one of three brothers, all of whom went to Dartmouth. The others are the late Stanley C. Fitts '19 of East Brookfield, Mass., and Osmer C. Fitts '26 of Brattleboro, Vt.
