Alumni Award to Louer
MAY 1963

The annual alumni dinner in Chicago on May 27 was the occasion for presenting a Dartmouth Alumni Award to Albert E.M. Louer '26. On behalf of the Dartmouth Alumni Council, its highest award was made by President Carter Strickland '29, who read the following citation:

On this occasion of the annual Dartmouth Alumni Dinner in Chicago it is fitting to pay special honor to you as a native son of this city and as one whose life-long service and good works for Dartmouth College are deeply appreciated by all who know about them, despite the modesty with which you perform these services.

In your career you have worked with Mandel Brothers and with the Community Fund of Chicago, with former Governor Henry Horner, and as financial secretary to Edwin F. Mandel. You have been active in political affairs in Illinois and have served the government on various commissions.

As president of the Dartmouth Club of Chicago and as a constant participant in its activities you have served the College in this region of the country. You have been a member of the Dartmouth Alumni Council, and as Alumni Fund agent for your Class of 1926 you achieved new high records for that class in the annual campaign over a period of several years. Less is known, but we wish here to recognize its importance, about your generous support and interest in encouraging students of Dartmouth who are interested in public service. Many of these undergraduates have gone on to careers in government.

For all of these and other things, the Alumni Council is delighted to present Al Louer with the Dartmouth Alumni Award.
