In the 1962 Alumni Fund campaign the outstanding head agent of a class one to ten years out of college was Thomas H. Schwarz '57 (r). The John R. Mason Trophy, symbolic of this honor, was presented to him at the April 3 dinner of class agents in New York. Trustee John D. Dodd '22, chairman of the 1962 Alumni Fund, read the following citation:
Seldom does the Fund Committee honor a Head Agent who has served for only two Campaigns, yet your record, as the Head Agent of 1957, during this brief span shows such outstanding achievements that the Committee was unanimous in its choice. Participation, of course, is the most important goal for any younger alumni classes, and in 1962 your class ranked third among all classes in both number of contributors and percent of improvement in contributors over the previous year. If this were not enough you also led the Class of 1957 to a record dollar total of $7,196 - the highest total ever achieved by any class on its fifth anniversary. These elements - participation and dollars — brought 1957 its well deserved Group 7 Green Derby victory. You achieved this victory by building a large and well-directed Agents organization, through imaginative and well-planned class mailings and by constantly seeking to impart to all classmates those important and thoughtful reasons for support which are pre-requisites for any successful campaign. Thanks to you, your fellow Class Officers, your fine Class Agents, the 1957 membership, and the example which you are setting for all younger classes, we can look ahead more confidently to the future of the annual Alumni Fund and of our great College. It is because of all of this that we are highly privileged to honor you and your classmates this evening by bestowing on you the John R. Mason Trophy for 1962, testifying to your selection as the outstanding Head Class Agent of a class one to ten years out of College.
