Ninety Eight's 65th Reunion and Family Roundup was a joyous event saddened, however, by the absence of Carney, Carter,Chandler, Eckstorm, Gleason, Littlefield, and Perkins and representatives from the families of many of our classmates who played so large a part in our Class history. But the three who came truly typified the Wheelock legend. Lord, the gradus ad parnassum; Tabor, the Bible and the drum; Seelman, the five hundred gallons. Of the families "Ich" Crane was represented by his daughter, Mary Hitchcock Crane Farwell, her husband, their two sons, Ted Jr. and Norman, their wives and children; and by "Ich's" son-in-law, Jim Irish and daughter. Mrs. Irish was in the Mary Hitchcock hospital. "Ted" Leggett, by Berthe and her three daughters, Marjorie Nathans, Marion Gates, and Yvonne Dyer, wife of Dan '39. "Pat" Lucey, by his daughter, Alice. "Charlie" Duncan, by his son Judge Laurence I. Duncan '27; "Jack" Spring, by his daughters, Elizabeth C. Spring and Eunice Roy and his son, Dr. John D. Spring '25, his wife, Ethel and son David '66; Gertrude Seelman, their daughter, Viola Odquist, her husband, Maurice; "Ike's" other daughter, Constance Ahrens and her son. There were 29 in all.
A banner over the Inn entrance announced "Headquarters 1898" with spacious room 117 for rest and refreshment. Saturday was memorable. The entire group were guests of Fred and Jeanne Lord at their apartment for coffee and cookies. At noon, a delicious dinner in the beautiful Drake Room in Hopkins Center. Three hours of outpouring of spirit, report by Oscar of fine Alumni Fund collection; reading letters from twenty families; picture taken; genial talk from President Dickey. At night all attended the Alumni Association buffet dinner and ceremonies at the Leverone Field House. Addresses were fine especially that of Dr. Dickey. Fred, Oscar, Ike and Gertrude and Berthe were asked to rise and take a bow! Back to headquarters. Sunday morn and none left in town but Fred and Oscar; Oscar, Spartan-like, led the Alumni Commencement procession as '98 always should.
Officers elected, President, Lord; Class Agent, Tabor; Secretary and Treasurer, Seelman. A news letter, containing a full account with letters received, will be issued soon.
Members of 1898's family on hand for that class's 65th reunion celebration.
