Your secretary hereby begins his eleventh year on this job. Already, his term is longer than his immediate predecessor, T.T. Metzel, who did such a tremendous job for the class, and is now our Bequest Chairman. This year, he hopes to devote more time to contacting men whom we never hear from. These are the men who are not forgotten, or overlooked in any truly great class. So we start anew under the guidance of our new prexy, John Moore, with fresh enthusiasm and a burning desire to be a better secretary.

The opening event of the fall is the 1923 reunion in Hanover - October 9, 10, and 11. The program of the weekend is as follows: Friday, October 9, 9 P.M., 1923 Reception - Drake Room - Hopkins" Center. Saturday, October 10, 11:30 A.M., Buffet Lunch - Leverone Field House. 2:00 P.M. Game. 6:00 P.M. - Cocktails; 7:00 P.M.- 1923 Dinner, Tavern Room - Hanover Inn.

Wives are naturally included at all events. A continental breakfast will be available for those staying at The Calumet in Lyme or the Rolling Hill in Norwich on both Saturday and Sunday mornings. As of the time we go to press, the following are expected to be in attendance (at the Princeton game festivities): Jack Booth, Roger Billings, Chet Bixby, Ted Caswell, Dick Cushman, Fred Davis, Walter Dodge, Frank Doten, Jim Doyle, Ralph Duffy, Irish Flanigan, Walt Friend, Sam Home, Bill Kimball, Ivan Martin, Bob McMillan, Joe Millar, Babe Miner, John Moore, Paul Morgan, Brooks Palmer, Al Pianca, Joe Pollard, John Read, Charlie Rice. Charlie Rivoire, Joe Schiffenhaus, Lou Wilcox, Roger Wilkinson, Karl Williams, Jim Landauer, Pudge Neidlinger and Charlie Zimmerman.

The Baker carillon bells rang out every morning at 6:45, from August 17 through 27, signalling another day of classes for the 1923 contingent in Hanover attending Dartmouth Alumni College. The Frank Dotens, Jim Landauers, Ivan Martins, Truman Metzels, Chet Bixbys, plus Karl Klaren, were warmly greeted by Ambassador Briggs '21 and Mike McGean '49, Sunday evening at the Top of the Hop, where all hands enjoyed a cocktail party and dinner, and met the 180-odd alumni and wives back for the first session of Dartmouth Alumni College.

Classes in Dartmouth Hall began sharply at 8:30. A coffee break on the Hop followed the second lecture. Then, the students split up into discussion groups of ten each for two hours until 1 P.M. All meals were served at Thayer Hall. Afternoons were spent on the tennis court, at the Hanover outdoor pool, on horseback, or walking around Hanover. Evenings usually began with a cocktail party, and ended up with a lecture, play, movie, or concert. Our class was particularly fortunate in having the Dotens and Landauers in residence, and their hospitality left nothing to be asked.

During all of this time, Lee Klaren was at the Mary Hitchcock Hospital and at South Strafford, suffering with a back ailment. At the last moment, Irish and Alice Flanigan found themselves unable to attend this college session, much to the regret of all hands assembled on the Hanover Plain.

When Jim Landauer isn't attending meetings as president and director of Grand Central Building, Inc. or as a director of Consolidated Oil and Gas, Inc., Denver, as trustee of the East River Savings Bank, New York, The Graham Home for Children, New York, the board of Managers Memorial Hospital, also New York, the Hanover Inn Board of Overseers, he is heading Dartmouth's "senate," the Alumni Council. In June, Jim was elected president of the council and from now on, for the next two years, will be frequently closeted with Sid Hayward '26, the council secretary, and guiding light. Since writing the above, word came in of Jim's election as a director of the Erie Lackawanna Railroad.

Chet Bixby was elected to the executive committee of The Dartmouth Alumni Council, at the council meeting in Hanover, in June.
