One of the College's new faculty members, Professor Harry C. Fenn, will be teaching one of the College's new courses: beginning instruction in spoken and written Mandarin Chinese. Professor Fenn, formerly Director of the Institute for Far Eastern Languages at Yale, will teach Chinese 1 in the fall term, Chinese 1 and 2 in the winter, and Chinese 2 and 3 in the spring. Mandarin Chinese is the accepted standard of schools on the mainland and on Taiwan. The reintroduction of instruction in Chinese reflects the College's increasing emphasis on the comparative approach in general and on Asia in particular.
