William B. Jaffe, L.H.D. '64, The founding chairman of the recently established Board of Overseers of Hopkins Center, died April 25 in New York.
A prominent lawyer and patron of the arts, Mr. Jaffe was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Union College and an honors graduate of Columbia Law School. Dartmouth has been for many years the beneficiary of his generosity and devoted interest. He had served since its formation as chairman of the Hopkins Center Arts Advisory Committee and in the early '60s as chairman of the Parents Fund Drive. With his wife Mr. Jaffe was the donor of the Jaffe-Friede Gallery in the Hopkins Center and many works of art. He had also established the annual Jaffe Art Prize.
A son Robert M. '58 and two stepsons, John A. Friede '60 and Robert L. Friede '63, are Dartmouth graduates.
