Sally has asked me to write this column. We are sorry to report that Beck, our wonderful secretary, has had tough going since his superhuman effort to attend our 60th. Thoroughly exhausted, he was overtaken by virus pneumonia - the type that does not carry pain or fever. Unaware of the malady at first, Beck was home for several weeks then in the hospital for three more weeks and finally home again with lungs not fully cleared, necessitating weekly trips to the hospital for x-rays. Sally writes that Beck is definitely improving but it is going to be slow. Sally also wrote that Hurricane Isbel passed them by - happy note. Beck rates himself at this writing, November 5, as 30%. We hope by the time this is published in December this percentage will be much higher and the notes from his facile pen will again appear in the January issue.

Matt recently enjoyed a fine two-day visit with Myron and Marie in their Burlington home. Myron's comment on Matt's visit in a letter to Robbie, October 21 carries an interesting comment on Matt's visit: "Matts two-day visit preceded going to the Princeton game, which recalled personal regrets that 61 years have not quite absolved.

"We attended a discussion on the 'Morals of the Coming Election' impaneled by two faculty members of the University of Vermont and two from St. Michael s College. The solicitation of questions prompted expression from Matt that was applauded by faculty members and students, which in turn brought comments from each of the four panelists to give better appraisal of the evening's efforts."

Myron's letter continues "Last Saturday we drove to Randolph where Marie visited with Geneva while Leon Webster and I went to the Brown game. We shared a luncheon table and enjoyable visit with the parents, of Ralph Duerre, the co-captain of Brown (who had tried for entrance at Dartmouth). The parents live in New Jersey and have a 'recreation property' in Wheelock, Vt. Incidentally Duerre proved his prowess at center in the razzle dazzle game that followed which Brown might well have won.

While Myron and Leon were at the Brown game Jimmie and Fannie Walker called at the Webster home and had a good visit with Geneva and Marie. Leon was sorry to miss the party.

Myron was hosted at the Harvard game by the '05 Bunch. A happy occasion.

The class executive committee has appointed the Rev. Canon Charles M. Tubbs to wear the mantle of Class Agent, so illustriously worn by Squid for so years. May success crown your extorts, Charlie.

Orra Roby writes that her present address is 4801 Connecticut Avenue, N.W., Washington 8, D. C.

Notice has been received of the recent death of Mrs. Ira O. Willard. The class extends its sympathy to her family.

The Sam Wings, who recently gave up their Burlington, Vt., home and moved to Arizona, are now back in Burlington house hunting. Their address later.

Marie Vail, who has been spending the summer with her daughter in Montreal and relatives on Long Island writes "As I don't want to go back and stay by myself at my home, I have decided to rent it at a very reasonable rate." Her pleasant home is at 13006 Boca Ciega Avenue, Madeira Beach, St. Petersburg, Fla. Marie's present address, 314 Landsdowne Ave., Montreal, Canada. A good opportunity for a winter on the beach for some of you or your friends. Marie would be glad to hear from you.

If these notes sound crazy to you, blame it on the election. Vermont has gone to the Deep South and the Deep South has come to Vermont politically. I am confused.

If the prayers of your boys and girls, Beck, prevail you should be writing these notes for January.
