THE COLLEGE
FEBRUARY 1964

JANUARY, before it was over, became a sort of anniversary month for the alumni side of the College. While in Hanover for their annual January meetings the Board of Trustees and the Alumni Council led the celebration of the Dartmouth Alumni Fund's 50th year at a dinner in Hopkins Center (see page 22). And five nights later, many of these same alumni leaders, plus a full contingent of College officers, were in the ballroom of Boston's Statler Hotel where a magnificent turnout of 1200 persons celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Boston (story and pictures next month). Both events, marked by enthusiasm and a confident sense of even greater achievement yet to come, were indicators of the alumni program's good health and of the proverbial loyalty of Dartmouth men - and women.

Over in Woodstock, Vt., another January dinner marked the 30th anniversary of the first ski tow in the United States — a simple rope affair on Clinton Gilbert's hillside, powered by a Model T Ford engine. Wallace "Bunny" Bertram '3l, still active in Woodstock, was honored for his part in launching a new era in winter sports.
