The honor of being Class Bequest Chairman of the Year was conferred on HerbertA. Wolff '10 at the annual meeting of the class officers in Hanover last month. In the absence of Mr. Wolff his classmate, Russell D. Meredith '10, accepted the award for him from Secretary of the College Sidney C. Hayward '26, who read the following citation:
Herbert Alfred Wolff of the Class of 1910, your outstanding record of service to mankind covers a field that includes education, religion, law, business, philanthrophy, and welfare. A longtime trustee of the New York Society for Ethical Culture and longtime chairman of the Governors of the Ethical Culture Schools, you have also for thirty years been a trustee and officer of the Hudson Guild Neighborhood House.
You served for ten years, including a vice chairmanship, on the Board of Social Welfare of the State of New York, and you were the World War II Chairman of the New York Selective Service Appeal Boards. You were awarded the Congressional Service Medal; and, last year, you were the recipient of the John Lovejoy Elliott Award.
But most of all, on this particular day, we cite you as an outstanding Dartmouth man. You are one of the original class bequest chairmen. You immediately became one of the most dedicated, most enthusiastic, and most efficient of all the chairmen. Under your aegis, the Class of 1910 has become one of the top classes in producing tangible results under the program. 1910 is one of the top three classes in number of matured bequests received, and in per cent of the class who have made provision for Dartmouth. You were the president of the Association of Bequest Chairmen in 1962-63, and you are a member of the important CAPA Bequest Study Committee at the present time.
And, perhaps, as a final note, it should be mentioned that you, with a very vital and essential assist from your Daisy, have assured Dartmouth that the Wolff name shall remain in the alumni roster - all four of your sons are Dartmouth graduates. The Bequest Association is proud to honor you as Bequest Chairman of the Year!
