Two major bequests totaling $328,287 have recently been received by the College. One, amounting to $200,000, has come in from the estate of Albert L. Emerson '23 of Warrensburg, N. Y., and the other, amounting to $128,287, from the trust estate of Benjamin C. Knox 'OB of Belmont, Mass.

The Emerson bequest has been used to establish an Albert L. Emerson 1923 Fund of $150,000 under the associated endowment funds of the College, functioning as endowment; and to add $50,000 to the already established Emerson Scholarship Fund, which has thus been enlarged to $73,271. Dartmouth also is to receive a share of the residuary estate.

Mr. Emerson, who died August 9, 1963, was a lifetime resident of Warrensburg, N. Y., and had been active in the banking, commercial, and civic affairs of the Warrensburg-Glens Falls area.

The Knox bequest was received by the College after the death of Miss Helen Knox, a sister for whom Mr. Knox had set up a trust fund with lifetime income provisions. A Benjamin C. Knox 1908 Memorial Fund has been created under the associated endowment funds, with income to be credited annually to the Alumni Fund.

Mr. Knox, who died January 25, 1960, had been a director and consultant for the Brazilian Division of Gulf Oil Corporation.
