ALUMNI may need a reminder that they - are eligible for many graduate scholarships and fellowships offered by the College.
Four James B. Reynolds Foreign Scholarships, each carrying a stipend of $2,000, will be awarded for the academic year 1953-54. Established by bequest of the late James B. Reynolds '90, these scholarships present opportunities for foreign study to qualified Dartmouth graduates. All alumni are eligible, but preference will usually be given to recent graduates and to members of the senior class. Awards will be based on the character and ability of applicants as well as on the value of their study programs. No restrictions are placed upon the choice of a foreign country or of any well-established educational institution abroad. Exceptionally qualified men may receive Reynolds awards in order to pursue special plans for advanced research or independent study.
Application forms for the Reynolds Scholarships and other graduate fellowships are obtainable from Prof. Henry M. Dargan, Chairman of the Committee on Fellowships and Prizes. An application must contain a detailed statement of the proposed plan of study, together with official transcripts of college and graduateschool grades and a recent photograph of the applicant. At least three supportingletters testifying to the character and ability of the applicant must be sent directly to the Chairman of the Committee.
For the Reynolds Scholarships, completed applications from alumni and all documents in support of their applications must be received by the Chairman not later than March 21, 1953. Alumni who wish to have personal interviews with the Committee should write to the Chairman before March 14, requesting interviews and listing possible dates. An alumnus, however, should not suppose that a personal interview is needed in order to insure adequate consideration by the Committee.
For graduate fellowships other than the Reynolds Scholarships, completed applications and supporting documents must be received by the Chairman not later than April 18. Alumni are eligible for the Colby Memorial Fellowships and most of the fellowships described in the Dartmouth College Bulletin Honors and Awards, August 1952, pp. 7-10. Inquiries should be addressed to Professor Dargan.
