Friends of "Spud" Bray Raising Memorial Fund
OCTOBER 1965

FRIENDS of George (Spud) Bray, Dartmouth's long-time "campus cop" who died a year ago, have undertaken to establish an endowment fund with Dartmouth College in his memory. A general announcement has gone out from the sponsoring group, headed by Donald L. Barr '18, describing the project and inviting the participation of all who remember Spud and wish to help memorialize "one of the most loyal and best loved men to have worked and lived in our community."

Income from the George C. Bray Memorial Fund, invested as part of the College's associated endowments, will be used to provide public information services for the Dartmouth-Hanover area. Such services are now provided during the summer months in association with the Hanover Chamber of Commerce through the information booth on the campus. Following his college retirement in 1945, Spud Bray was the first attendant when the information center was inaugurated, and he worked there for many years before his final illness. As part of the memorial plan, the campus booth will henceforth bear a plaque honoring him.

Contributions to the George C. Bray Memorial Fund, so designated, should be made payable to Dartmouth College and sent to the College Treasurer or to Donald L. Barr, 45 Rip Road, Hanover.

In his will Spud Bray left the College a fund of $1000 to be used for the benefit of students in Dick's House. The income, according to his wish, will be used "for such things as newspapers, magazines, and the like which will add to the pleasantness of their stay during their hospitalization."

Before his retirement in 1945, Spud Bray worked for the College for 29 years, most of them as campus inspector and security officer. He died September 25, 1964 at the age of 90.
