With 215 students representing 71 undergraduate colleges and universities firmly entrenched in Tuck Hall, the academic year here at Tuck has officially begun. And with this fall season comes an onslaught of reports on the activities of Tuck's always busy faculty and alumni. All the news that fits I'll print.
First, the faculty. Several new faces can be seen about Tuck: Professor Louis Foster returns to team with Assistant ProfessorDonald Stone in the cost accounting area; other additions include visiting ProfessorEarl Bell (quantitative analysis), visiting Professor John Brosky (finance), ProfessorDavid Bradley (case analysis and written expression), and Assistant Professor FredWebster (marketing).
Professor Quinn presented a paper entitled "Industrial Research and Development, Some Comparisons of U. S. and Western European Culture" before Institut Europeen D'Administration des Affairs, Fontainebleau, France, during a seminar sponsored by INSEAD. In September the Ronald Press Company published the "Marketing Handbook" edited by A. W. Frey T'21. Professors Davis and Mayer were contributing editors. Assistant Professor Webster has been awarded one of two silver medals for industrial marketing research by Industrial Marketing magazine in association with the C. D. Crain Jr. Foundation. His subject was buying patterns within the defense industry.
Professor Elbing taught this summer in the National Association of Mutual Savings Bank management program in Hanover as well as at Dartmouth's Alumni College. Lastly, Professors Morrissey, Bower and Williamson combined efforts to produce a highly successful Leasing Conference in June. Some 36 major firms were represented at the two-day conference designed to explore the many facets of the question of leasing and was sponsored by the quickly-growing Tuck Associates Program.
Many Tuck alumni have made news these past several months: Robert Rader T'47 has been named vice president of the D. H. Overmyer Leasing Company, an affiliate of the Overmyer national warehousing and distribution firm. Charles M. Farley T'47 is Macy's choice as manager of the company's new store in Albany, N. Y. Elected president of the Northwest Des Moines National Bank was David Wright T'48. Bruce O'Brien T'47 has moved to assistant vice president of the Lumberman's Mutual and American Motorists Divisions of the Kemper Insurance Group. Alcoa Residences, Inc., a subsidiary of Alcoa Properties, has named Charles J.Urstadt T'51 a vice president. Richard D.Lombard T'54 and Edmund F. Hunt T'52 were selected respective chairmen of the Rye, N. Y., and Upper Montclair, N. J., annual United Fund Drive. Bob Becker T'61 was just recently employed by First National City Bank.
H. Clifton Whiteman T'51, a vice president of Morgan Guaranty Trust Company of New York, has been named head of the group that handles the bank's activities in the midwest. A release from Pitney Bowes, Inc. reports that Thomas Loemker T'53 has been named manager of business development. George A. Davis T'53 is now controller of Thomas J. Lipton. Inc.
Continuing with alumni news, John Peterson T'54 has been named product manager of a new line of water-based grinding fluids by the Norton Company. Peter M. Kenyon T'55 has been elected executive vice president of a subsidiary of the Grand Union Company and Premium Corporation of America. Jack L. Bellliardt T'sl was elected a second vice president of Smith, Barney & Company. Walter Lasher T'58 has joined the management staff of the Mechanics National Bank of Worcester, Mass. Here in Hanover, Egil Stigum T'59 is a partner in a new insurance venture. Bent & Stigum.
In the area of Academics, Andrew Peterson T'59 has been appointed an accounting instructor at Bentley College, Boston. JohnDonnelly T'58 has accepted the position of international sales manager for the Gray Company of Minneapolis and Dave Wakelee T'56 has been appointed to the newly created position of general marketing manager - hardware at the Electronic Assistance Corporation.
Other Tuck alumni changes include: Henry Honess T'61 to assistant treasurer for the Connecticut Bank & Trust Company; Al Pesky T'60 to account executive at Papert, Koenig, Lois Inc.; Charles Mortenson T'62 to manager of production planning and control for Miniature Precision Bearings of Keene, N. H.; and Jack Tonovich T'60 to management trainee at the Great Falls, Montana, National Bank. I think that covers the field.
