The intrigues and splendor of India, Tibet, Nepal, China, Kashmir, and Pakistan soon will be (or just was) ours for the slight effort of turning out at Jake Lawler's ('22) Cinerama Theatre sometime in March, and plunking down our two dollars per. While our minds will be in the far-off Orient, in actuality we'll be viewing the exciting Lowell Thomas adventure through the Himalayas, which he calls "Search For Paradise." In case you haven't gathered, this is our winter money raiser to strengthen the Hartford Club Scholarship Fund, for which purpose Jake has very kindly provided us opening night at the theatre.

Speaking of the fund, President RichardPage '59 has informed us that his "Committee of Fifty" scheme for the scholarship fund has worked out as planned. The idea was to ask fifty alumni for ten dollars per year until our goal of $25,000 in principal is reached. In this manner, we will easily obtain the annual $1,000 needed for our "Man in Hanover," while continuing to build toward enough principal to make the fund self-sustaining eventually. This year forty men gave us a total of $540, and if the math seems strange, it's because of several corporate matching gifts.

At our January luncheon, Mr. Jon O. Newman, U.S. Attorney for State of Connecticut, had some 40 of us engrossed in the current controversial issue of "Crime and the Criminals' Rights." This was a highly informative talk, off the record and straight from one who should know, and his position was that once the facts are examined with regard to the law seemingly "favoring" criminals, things are not so bad as they sometimes appear. Some new faces who enjoyed the luncheon with us were, Elliot Brill '16,Henry Andretta '26, and Charlie Fortunate'46. Hope many more of you will drop in soon. Our February meeting was in the form of our annual football films, this time with varsity backfield coach Jim Root doing the commentary. The event is usually an evening program, but we decided to consolidate this year.

Probably our next colossus will be the annual meeting (date, time, and place to be announced) with the ever popular, difficult to engage, Thaddeus Seymour, Dean of the College, as principal speaker. We will make this a big evening out, so keep listening for further news.

At a Philadelphia Alumni Club luncheon the historic "fifth down" football game withCornell, 25 years ago, in 1940, was recalled by: (l to r) Dr. Walter Matuszak (CornellCaptain and father of Charles J. Matuszak '67), Irving "Snuffy" Smith '41 (managerof the 1940 team), Lou Young '41 (Dartmouth captain), Harold McCullough (Cornell back), "Red" Friesell (the referee holding the game football), William Murphy(Cornell back who caught the fifth-down pass), and Ray Wolfe '43 (Dartmouth half-back). Snuffy Smith is Associate Director of Athletics.
