Pending receipt of news and communiques from classmates and widows, I humbly offer some details of what your secretary has been up to in and around Old Greenwich, Connecticut. In the firm belief that music is one of the best therapies, I pursue this muse on every front and on every occasion possible. Starting with weekly church services, I counter the preachers homilies on sin with lively hymns and folk and patriotic selections that I render on the organ. Sinners momentarily repent, and show it in song.
Then in evening revelries I lead a 17-piece swing orchestra in all the tunes we danced to in 1932-36. "Dear Old Dartmouth" is our signature tune. Adding glamour to these performances is a gorgeous six-girl swing ensemble modeled on the Modernaires, and I really mean "modeled."
Just to balance things, I direct an 18-man chorus, all members of the Greenwich Retired Men's Association, and all getting younger at heart each time they give a concert. In the 10 years that this has been going on, these "Melody Men" have entertained more than 15,000 people.
Then to top it all off, my lovely British wife and I do our solo act all around town. In 1943 in London the British called this act "Lend-lease in Reverse." Many of you have heard her at our reunions.
So that's how the Button family keeps busy. Now let me hear your stories.
