To be congratulated for their election as officers of the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Cleveland, serving for the next year, are the following men: President, Martin R.King '38; first vice president, John C. Klein'52; second vice president, Edward A. Mortimer Jr. '44; assistant secretary, EdwardOberndorf '52; and treasurer, Fred C. Chandler '51.
The election took place midst much fun at the March 25 DAAC Annual Dinner Meeting at the Sheraton-Cleveland Hotel, where nearly 200 Dartmouth men and their wives and dates gathered.
To President Dickey, who was guest of honor and principal speaker at the dinner, the Cleveland alumni made known their admiration and affection for him in the 20th year of his administration by presenting him with an engraved silver tray. Lee Chilcote '30, who introduced President Dickey on the occasion of his first visit to the Cleveland club 19 years ago, made the presentation and said in part:
"I have always had fond memories of President Dickey's first visit and, among other good things, well recall that John's attitude was a combination of determination, courage, and humility. I recollect very definitely that it did not take any of us long to realize that here was a man, our new President of Dartmouth, who was going to go places.
"John Dickey has done exactly that during these past 20 years. Moreover, those of us who have had sons at Dartmouth recently know that great appreciation is also voiced by our younger Dartmouth alumni for the outstanding job he has done at Dartmouth.
"Therefore, President Dickey, to help celebrate your 20 wonderful years with Dartmouth, it is my honor on behalf of the Greater Cleveland alumni to present you with this gift as a token of our appreciation."
Lee Chilcote was on the receiving end of an honor himself. The coveted Dartmouth Alumni Award was conferred upon him by the Dartmouth Alumni Council. The citation accompanying the award will be found with the 1930 class column in this issue.
