Gary W. Moore (MALS'78) has served as the president of Gary W. Moore Associates for the past 20 years. This is a consulting firm that specializes in emergency planning, environmental issues and government relations. For the past 10 years he has been an adjunct for Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service. In this capacity he travels around the country teaching military, fire, police, emergency medical service and emergency management personnel how to prepare for and deal with major incidents involving terrorism or natural disasters. A longtime member of the Vermont hazardous materials response team, Gary responds to incidents across the state from meth labs to industrial, highway or railroad accidents involving hazardous materials. This team is also responsible for plume tracking in the case of a Vermont Yankee release.

Gary is a former educator and independent school administrator. He was appointed by five governors to a variety of positions in Vermont state government, including commissioner of fish and game, chair of the water resources board and on the mental health board. He served for the past 22 years as a member of the Vermont State Colleges system board and has been the chair for the past seven years. He also represents Vermont on the four-state Connecticut River Flood Control Commission and on the two-state Connecticut River Joint Commission.

He and his wife, Linda, live in Bradford, Vermont, where his family has resided for generations. He has been a firefighter for more than 40 years and served as chief of the Bradford Fire Department as well as the West Newbury (Vermont) Fire Department. He is the emergency management director for Bradford and chair of the police commission. Gary also serves Bradford in the elected positions of grand juror and town agent. For the past 35 years Gary has written a weekly column, "Thoughts on the Out-of-Doors," that appears in Vermont and New Hampshire newspapers. He also freelances for magazines and other newspapers.
