In recognition of his distinguished career and loyal service to Dartmouth College, the Dartmouth Alumni Council honored Herbert A. Wolff '10 (left) by conferring its Alumni Award upon him at the annua] meeting of class officers in Hanover last month. Former Council President Roger C. Wilde '2l presented Mr. Wolff with a replica of the silver Wentworth Bowl and read the following citation at a gathering of all the class officers and their wives in 105 Dartmouth Hall:
HERBERT ALFRED WOLFF '10
You have always been an ardent and energetic Dartmouth man, even from 1909, when you and Sheldon Smith won the New England Intercollegiate Doubles Championship in tennis. Chairman or member of three Reunion Committees and of the Executive Committee of 1910, you have been a devoted member of your class. You have sired four sons - all of whom are Dartmouth graduates, and you have a grandson in Hanover in the Class of 1968.
Your record of service to mankind in law, business, religion, education, philanthropy, and welfare is distinguished and widely known in the New York City area.
Then for the past decade, in the later but perhaps best years of your life, you have assumed a leading place in one of Dartmouth's most important developments - her Bequest and Estate Planning Program. One of the most enthusiastic, hard-working and dedicated of class bequest chairmen, you were president of the Association of Bequest Chairmen in 1962-63, were selected as the Bequest Chairman of the Year in 1964, and have been a member of the important Trustee Study Committee on Bequests for the past two years.
It is not happenstance that your Class of 1910 is found to be one of the leading classes in the number of bequests and in the per cent of the class who have made provision for the College in their estate plans.
Because of your devotion and your work Dartmouth is a stronger, a more secure, and a more preeminent institution of higher learning.
The Alumni Council is proud to honor you with the Dartmouth Alumni Award.
