The Utica Observer-Dispatch had his picture and saluted him as "Mr. Show-Business of Utica" and continued, "He is recognized as dean of the world's concert managers with carte blanche entry to any booking agent or star. At 85, he is the oldest active impressario." The Utica Daily Press in an editorial commented: "Roland E. Chesley lives an enviable type of life. He was 85 yesterday, a man with the vitality of a person many years younger, a man active and useful in his community. . . . Mr. Chesley's business is concert management. He is general manager of the Great Artist's Series. In 33 years of this work he has brought to Utica 300 top flight musicians and musical groups."
