Columbia weekend, short on football competition, was heavy on good weather for a fine reunion. Paul Young's arrangements were excellent, starting with Friday dinner, well attended, marvelous cocktail party, and the popular Saturday night buffet as closer. Innovation was a group picture taken at the 1943 Class Memorial Fountain.
The Saturday class meeting produced great and serious subjects for discussion ineluding 25th Reunion plans. Chairman George Mimroe, parliamentarian always, electrified the group with announcing that Frank Hartmann will be Reunion Chairman. Well acclaimed choice. Known for his merchandising (and who can forget Barbra?), Frank will bring his tremendous enthusiasm and organizational skill to this important task to "MAKE IT GREAT IN '68" Bob McQueen, in absentia, reminded George that our total class giving to June 30 1966 was $389,609; to reach our projected 25th Class Gift of $600,000 we need $210,000 - with only two Alumni Funds to go Didn't sound too insurmountable that Saturday morning. Couple of guys reached for wallets to settle the matter then, but BusMosbacher, intrepid challenger, thought the rest of the class deserved participation in raising the money. His cool head prevailed. Jack Meleney, sometime student of reunion planning, expressed a few ideas of what to do in '68, resulting in lively discussion. Others fighting sleep were Phil Jackson, Andy Caffrey, Tuss Hand, Bud Hall, Hugh Lena, Pete Geer, Bob Gray, Cal Osberg, Don Reich, Tony Farrell, Harry Gustafson, Paul Young, and Ken Sorlein. Bill Glovsky, Newton political figure, couldn't find the caucus room.
Class is fortunate in its two fine and generous Hanover families - the Farrells and Youngs. After Friday dinner we took a motorcade to Kit and Tony Farrells just up the Connecticut from Ledyard Bridge. Beautiful home in an appealing country setting. Tony just has to be governor of Vermont some day; lie has what it takes. Ruth and Paul Young were gracious hosts for their traditional reception after the game. Paul has done so much for the class as our man in Hanover. Martin Kane, the man from Maine, allowed the trip was worth it and also allowed he taught Blackman everything he knows; at the Youngs' Martin gave us a lot of inside stuff, followed by a collect call to George Barlow; the Trenton jurist denied knowing any Uncle Killer, refused to accept Stan Bolster, Harvard professor, and Lew English, insurance appraisal expert from Westford, Mass., made the scene. ... Earl Harris showed the friendly guy he is by bringing a busload of his friends to the game. Saw him in the stands not far from Pres (or was it Clark) Moore. Chairman George got regrets from Ernie Ball, Ed Lider, Roy Conningswood, Al Stedman, Joe Koci, and Jim Elleman.
New Hockey Rink Building will be dedicated at Choate School, Wallingford, Conn., on December 3 in memory of Bill Remsen. Classmates Mosbacher, Meleney, and Hall may attend dedication. ...
