Because a guy happens to be intrepid, be- comes a household word, and gets drawn in cartoons doesn't mean he has to appear in every column, one old buddy writes me reproachfully. I got the message. So let's mention Mike Diaz, seafarer of another sort, new executive vice president and member of the board, American Export Isbrandtsen Lines. Mike had been president West Coast Line, trading between South America and the U. S.
Unless you have a clipping service, you might have missed: Jack Behringer as a new member of the Philadelphia-Baltimore-Wilmington Stock Exchange. Jack is also state finance director of the Republican State Executive Committee of Florida . . . the wedding of Burrows Barstow to Mrs. Katherine Cooper Moorhouse in West Chester, Pa., last July 3... . Art Bolster, the new Professor of Education at Harvard, continuing teaching history at Newton High School. He is one of a small number of exceptional practitioners who serve as clinical professors at Harvard's Graduate School of Education.
Some place, that San Juan, especially when Kirkie Lallande and his lovely wife Vera are the hosts. Ruth, Mary and I had a wonderful Saturday with them at Dorado Beach in August. Vera is a New York girl taking San Juan in stride, and old Kirkie an important wheel in Caribe Motors, the big General Motors distributor. Two nice people deserving happiness in their new life.... Good to hear from Tom McManus, the Ford king of Wakefield. Rose and he will be at the fall reunion.
Most of you have not sent in your biog- raphies for the 25 Year Book, which BobGray is editing. We want a good edition published for next spring in time for the 25th. Send about 500 words plus current photograph, preferably with your family. Bob will also welcome photographs from college days or class reunions with appropriate identifications. Of the many family moves this year BraceAnderson takes first prize. Having practiced oeneral pediatrics in Billings, Mont, for 11 Vz years at the Billings Clinic, Bruce took a two years' sabbatical to study pediatric allergy at the University of Rochester School of Medicine, Rochester, N. Y. He will take the exams for the American Board of Pediatrics in the sub specialty of pediatric allergy. His son Jeff is Dartmouth '70 and son David goes to Fountain Valley School. Daughters Cindy, Kitty, and Julie are with Jean and him, and Jean is casually picking up a Master's in Anthropology at Rochester while Bruce studies. Skiing, climbing, and sailing are the lures to return to Montana, but this Anderson family would be very welcome in any community.
So you'll be surprised to learn that another Vermonter has gone west GeorgeMason, settling in Reno. He says if you live in Reno, you can't afford to gamble. He moved out there in early 1966 to head his company's new Western Division and along the way married Jo Francis from London. Their main residence is Incline Village at Lake Tahoe, but spend considerable time in their Reno winter apartment. George's daughter Whitney graduated from Madeira School in Virginia, spent the summer in Germany, and now should be at Skidmore. Remember George if you are in the Tahoe area.
Back east, Jack Pfeiffer, former trustee of the Dartmouth Club of Bergen County, has moved to 12 Godman Road, Madison, Conn. He does sales and public relations work for Eagle Paint and Varnish Corporation out of Long Island City, N. Y. Already he has transferred his allegiance to the Dartmouth Club of New Haven, where he met his old Topliff buddy, Bud Silverstein. Jack's oldest son graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute last June in chemical engineering and now is on a wonderful three-year fellowship to pursue his doctorate.
A charming address is Oconomowoc, Wis., where you'll find Al Newton managing the African and Middle East for the international division of Allis Chalmers Company. Since graduating from Michigan College of Mining and Technology in 1950, Al served a second hitch with the Corps of Engineers during Korea, then spent the next twelve years with Letourneau-Westinghouse in its international division. This traveled family has four children ranging from 21 to 13.
Could hardly believe the nice note from George Lowden. It's been seven years since he left Standard Oil to become sales manager of Lubrizol in Cleveland. Now living in Shaker Heights with Whiz and their children George, Josie and David. George had kind words about his old roomies Chick Webb and Dick Smith. The Lowdens will be in Hanover next June, will you?
Have finally a word or two about JimHeenehan, who now lives at 2 Beekman Place, New York City. Not much about what he's doing other than a recent chat with Dixie Daniels. They both would like to hear from Roberto Herrera, the Guatemalan Gaucho, who's still living there.
Easy to remind you to pay your class dues to Bob Lappin, who sold his Shetland Company to the SCM Corporation. Just pony up! He tells me Jim Knoepfler is secretarytreasurer of the oldest automobile dealership in Sioux City, lowa, where he's camped since 1963.
R is for Reunion. Start planning now for next June. Big program underway. More details next month.... Now what was the name of that guy who made the big splash this summer?
