This class is showing its age (and its class) when a member receives an honorary degree - especially from Dartmouth College. Belated congratulations to Bus Mosbacher for this fine recognition received last June. Isn't this the first one to a '43? Anyone know of others?

Fall brings out the politicians among us ranging from Chet Roche running for reelection for the Gardner, Mass., school board to Henry Townshend for Mayor of New Haven to John Altorfer for Lt. Gov. of Illinois. Chet is active in Gardner affairs including a bank directorship and Boy Scout work. Hank Townshend, with a strong family political heritage, takes on the incumbent Richard Lee, winner in a photo finish two years ago. Most interesting if it took a Dartmouth guy to straighten out New Haven's problems.

The Chicago Daily News did a nice profile on John Altorfer, stating John has taken the political plunge with a salesman's savvy. John entered the race for Lt. Governor because he faced too many candidates in the governor's race. Called by the News a walking ad for successful American business, John combines top flight business ability with plenty of time for good causes like MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Mich., and, of course, the Republican party. When the family business was sold (ABC washing machines), John invested in a permanent starch product, a Peoria radio station, served as director in an insurance company, bank, and small businesses. Somewhere in between these activities he does a little grain farming, flies a plane, and with wife Harriet raises three daughters. John calls himself a conservative Republican and already has a full-steam campaign underway.

Dick Foley, practicing in Rogers City, Mich., had a daughter graduate from the University of Michigan in June and marry in August.... Bob Gray used a postcard from Tokyo to announce the arrival of son Geoffrey Paul on July 18. Bob left Washington for a quick trip to the Orient, leaving behind Susie and five little Grays. . . . JoeMiskell checks in from Falmouth, Mass.; family status the same' — two boys and one girl. Joe still plays lots of tennis with one son, a good tennis prospect. Warren Dale and family left Texas this summer for an Eastern tour, visited the Miskells in June.

... Art Handy in nearby Pocasset has been elected a director, Sandwich Cooperative Bank. Art manages and operates cranberry bogs and is a director of the Cape Cod Extension Service. .. . Seeing these Cape names reminds me of my father's Orleans team in the Cape Cod League in 1930. Featured Red Rolfe '31, Johnny Broaca, Lauri Myllykangas '31, and many others later in pro ball. Eddie Jeremiah '30 played for Sandwich, I think.

Harry Gustafson is manager, bakery division, H. A. Johnson Co., 87-year-old Boston-based wholesale food manufacturer and distributor. Well-known in the baking industry, Harry has been in it over fifteen years including a tour with Procter and Gamble. .. . Roy Watson has been speaking at many functions as first vice president American Hotel and Motel Association (you've seen the Hotel Red Book everywhere). In his spare time he is president and general manager, Kahler Hotels, Rochester, Minn... . Bill Seidman continues to make the scene as special assistant (unpaid) to Governor Romney on financial and tax matters. Bill exerts considerable influence on Michigan's state economy. ... Long with General Electric, Bill Burr apparently has forsaken Ft. Lauderdale to be assistant to the president, Paramount Foods Inc., Louisville. . . . Bill Schumaker adds another duty as secretary-treasurer, National Association of State Mental Health Program Directors. He's still director of State Bureau of Mental Health in Augusta. .. . And what have you been doing?

The 195th College year just opened. Ever notice how our alumni column is slowly working its way towards the front of the book? With the twentieth reunion approaching, Jack Meleney lays ambitious plans for the Hanover caper. Now is the time to plan to attend. Don't regret missing it. DonReich just sent the annual reminder that each classmate owes him $7.50 for the privilege of belonging to this class. Money is more important than ever to this class in this and the coming years. Please mail promptly. Thoughts while racing along the O'Hare Expressway in Chicago. . .. The Morton Salt sign reminds me of Geddes Carrington. Must call him sometime to see if it really pours. . . . And whatever happened to Connor B. Shaw, my onetime roommate with the Queen Mary bed? He's one guy that should return for reunion. Chicago's not a popular address for our class. Just one guy, Fred Lent, claims it. The others live in the suburbs. No wonder I couldn't find Paidar, Tenney, Craig, Dewey, Brown, Davies, Middlebrook, Dushame, Heneage, Phillips, King, Armstrong, Baldwin, Carrington, Knoop, and Preece in Conrad Hilton's telephone book.
