When Santa makes his nocturnal rounds this year, he's going to have a tough time catching up with some '54's. He'd be well advised to call on Tony Lukeman in broad daylight and wearing his brightest suit. Tony is a major with the Third Marine Division in Viet Nam. Waiting for his return in September '67 are wife Mary Louise and children, who are now residing at 6322 Farmar Lane, Flourtown, Pa. Also on duty for a year in Viet Nam is Air Force Capt. BobMcCartney, who is located at Cam Ranh Bay. Another flyboy who has just completed his hitch in Viet Nam is Bill Sherman, who is due soon for promotion to major. Bill, his wife and three children will be spending the next three years in Hawaii, where he'll be serving in the Tactical Air Command headquarters at Hickham Field.
While on the subject of Viet Nam, my notes show that Dick Deaner was serving as a medical officer aboard the carrier Orikany at the time of its recent tragic fire in the Gulf of Tonkin. We all certainly hope that Dick came through this ordeal in good shape.
Not all of our career Air Force classmates are serving in the Far East. Capt. Levi Goldfarb has returned home from a four-year tour of duty in Germany and is now assigned to the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. Levi is with Air Force Intelligence. Our nomination for James Bond's successor served in the Philippines and Crete before Germany. But unlike 007, our 0054 had little time for the beautiful extracurricular gals. Wife Ruth, sons David, 11½, Averam, 9, Moshe, 6½, and daughter Leah, 2½, kept him pretty well occupied, when not sleuthing. While in Germany, Levi received a master's degree in aerospace operations management from the European branch of the University of Southern California in Wiesbaden.
One of our zoomies has flown the coop. After 11½ years of jet jockeying for SAC and TAC, John Titus has exchanged his Air Force wings for those of American Airlines. The ex-major is now flying 707's out of New York as flight engineer, working his way up to pilot again.
Santa not only will have to travel to some treacherous places this year to find classmates, he may also be confused by some new faces in the family. On August 27 of this year, Scott Rambach married Lynn Hughes Hoxie in Columbia, Calif. Lynn, who is a graduate of the University of California, and Scott are now living in Carmel. Further south September 10 was the big day for Perry Weston who was wed to the former Polly Jane Allen at the Hollywood Church of Christ in Los Angeles. Perry is an account exec with the insurance firm of Marsh and McLennan. Joe Keenan and Dorothy Carol Sutherland, a Vassar alumna, became engaged this summer with an October wedding planned. Joe, a CPA, is computer systems consultant with Fedder Data Centers in New York City.
Among those greeting St. Nick for the first time this year will be quite a few new class babies. Alec and Kathy Gray had their first child, W. Alexander (Sandy) Gray III, born on July 31, 1966. Alec is sales rep. with Pan American Airways in Minneapolis. It was first child also for Don and MaryMeltzer when Kimberly Ann recently made her debut in Sudbury, Mass. The latest addition to the Tony Migliaccio family, Leslie Jean, arrived last April. When things got too hectic for Tony in the nursery or in his surgery practice in Bristol, R.I., he went off sailing. In June he took part in the Newport to Bermuda race. A daughter, Janice Dawn, was born to Nancy Lee and Dick Eaton on April 13, 1966. Looks like her older brothers Bill, Ricky, and Gary are going to look outside the family for that new third baseman in the Eaton infield. Don and VirginiaBerwick had their first daughter, too. Deborah Louise joined her two older brothers on March 4, 1964. It was a boy, Douglas, for Ron and Carole Jabara on Aug. 17, 1966. He is their second son.
Expecting a new arrival of a different sort is Tom Corcoran who hopes to have his new 130-acre Waterville Valley, N.H., ski area in operation very soon. With an assist from the Department of Commerce in the form of a $1.3 million loan, Tom has concentrated on building a tremendous uphill lift capacity. He expects to avoid long waiting lines by installing lifts capable of carrying 6,600 skiers an hour. Tom was promoting the area at a recent ski show at the New York City Coliseum, but was pictured in the Y. Times demonstrating an indoor skiing device. I guess Tom was following that old adage, "When in the Coliseum, do as the New Yorkers do."
If Santa ever got tired of his working conditions and decided he needed a new job, the man he should turn to is Tony Kane. Tony heads a large personnel agency, Anthony Kane Associates, Inc., in New York City. He was recently elected president of The Association of Personnel Agencies of New York, an organization which is spokesman for more than 1,200 private personnel agencies throughout the state. Tony, Barbara and daughter Susan travel almost as much as the old gent from the North, commuting between their New York City apartment and their weekend home in Weston, Conn.
There are quite a number of classmates working up North and not as elves either. Dave Martin, who is the most recent to go to work for Dartmouth, was named as an associate in the development office. He will be concerned primarily with work for the Alumni Fund. Moving to Hanover with Dave from Boulder, Colo., where he was director of the University of Colorado News Service, are wife Mary and daughters Melanie, 7, and Mollie, 4. Bruce McAllister is an assistant comptroller at the College involved in investments, endowment funds, and student fees. Bruce, wife Judy and children Stephen, 11, Wendy, 10, Jeffrey, 8, and Amy, 6, have a fine view of the Hanover Golf Course from their Lyme Rd. house. Previously Bruce worked for a Buffalo, N.Y., accounting firm. Dick Plummer is a purchasing agent for Dartmouth. Our only representative on the faculty is Dave Sices, an assistant prof, in the French department and recipient of a Ph.D. from Yale. Judging by the number of requests for football tickets he receives, everyone must know that SeavPeters is assistant director of athletics. The only trouble is that Pete is in charge of intramurals and not connected with the ticket department. No listing of classmates working in Hanover would be complete without mention of Dick Fowler, who although not officially employed by the College, must hold some quasi rank. He is director of the Dartmouth Co-op.
Santa came early this year for NormRoss, leaving him a shiny new promotion as a present. In July the State Mutual Life Assurance Company of Worcester, Mass., named Norm manager of purchasing and communications services. Also working for this company are Norm Kasparsora in the legal department and Mike Korjeff in the investment department. Norm, who has been with State Mutual since graduation, lives in Framingham, Mass., with wife Nancy, daughters Lynne, 10, Wendy, 7, and son Craig, 5.
To all in the '54 family, from Viet Nam to Hanover, a merry Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year!
