Jay Evans '49, from the admissions office of the College, graced us with his presence and personally met with 60 top students from high schools in the metropolitan Denver area. Top enrollment mogul Jim Swansoil '59 feels that this personal with prospects by someone from Hanover is often enough to convince the doubters that Dartmouth is the place. Those helping in the enrollment program outside of Denver are, to name only a few, Bob Kaatz '44, Colorado Springs; Bart Jones '39, Fort Collins; Barklay Jameson '54, Grand Junction; Chip Hartenstein '57, Boulder; and John Chilson '59 from Loveland.
Gerry Samuelson '55 has returned to Denver from Albany, N.Y., and is now with Dean Witter & Co., the head of which is Bob Woodberry '54. Don McMichael '53, who for years has sold life insurance for a company he touted as being best, has left that company to take over as general agent for Indianapolis Life Insurance Company. No doubt he will now be telling us that this new company is best.
Rugby is being introduced to the Rockies by Dartmouth people. Woodberry et al. have organized a team and hope to knock off Colorado University Rugby Club this year. Other Dartmouth greats involved in this effort are Monte Pascoe '57 and Wayne Kakela '57.
John Chafee '55, former Sigma Nu pingpong champ, is fast becoming the scourge of the squash circuit. Word is out that he is much better than prexy Bob Priester '49 even though the latter has a great deal of dash. Chafee, by the way, was just elected secretary-treasurer of the elite Rocky Mountain Group of Investment Bankers Association of America.
Jim Fox '63 made his presence known to us the other day. It seems that he is a surgical intern at Colorado General Hospital where he is cursed with having approximately 60 colleagues from Harvard. After the Harvard-Dartmouth game things got a bit rough and he sought asylum. We welcome him. Another new arrival is Ted Cutler '63, who is a trainee with P and G.
Ed Hunter '55, recently returned from Hanover and reported that Tanzi looks the same as he did ten years ago. He also mentioned that the English muffins still taste the same at Lou's, the Wilder Grill is now a thruway, Golf Side is now a bowling alley, and Wigwam is a tennis court. He is not too sure about the modern architecture either, his training in Art I to the contrary not-withstanding.
