If you have an opportunity to see the movies of the highlights of the 1965 football season, it's recommended that you be sure to take advantage of it. The effective blocking which made possible some of the spectacular gains is even more apparent in these pictures than it was while watching the games. Whitey White, Bill Sleigh, and Ben Bowden, together with yours truly, enjoyed the program which included the football pictures put on by the North Shore Dartmouth Club in Salem.
Ken Sullivan, secretary-treasurer of Phoenix Mutual Life of Hartford, has retired after 34 years of service. After earning his master's degree at Tuck School he became a certified public accountant and joined the accounting department of Phoenix in 1931. He was named assistant comptroller in 1942, assistant treasurer in 1949 and treasurer in 1954. In 1958 he was appointed secretary and treasurer and elected secretary of the board. Ken was treasurer and trustee of the University of Hartford from 1936 to 1962. He is treasurer and trustee of the Hartford Rehabilitation. Center, a director of Financial Executives, Inc., a member of the national panel of the American Arbitration Association, and a member of the Newcomen Society of North America.
Charley Moore's name appeared in the news again when the Board of Overseers of Harvard University reappointed him to the visiting committee to the School of Public Health, whose function is to act as liaison between the departments and educational foundations and individuals outside the University. Pete Blodgett, vice president of the First National Bank of Boston, spoke recently at the annual joint meeting of the Maine Bankers Association and the Maine Chapter of NABAC, the Association for Bank Audit, Control and Operation, held at Waterville. Pete concentrates his activities in Maine. He is a member of the Newcomen Society of North America and the American Institute of Banking.
The Pete Kelseys have closed out their house in San Francisco and are now living permanently at Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., a few miles north of San Diego. Homer Tilton is now at Goose Rocks Beach, RFD 2, Kennebunkport, Me. Phil Cole has moved to 10 Chase Lane, Broadmoor, Colorado Springs, Colo.
Walt VomLehn reports having spent much of his retirement time just getting to the bottom of the pile of mail which he found upon returning from a two-months trip in the Mediterranean. He revisited some ports after a period of 45 or more years and observed many changes. "Inland, however (Africa for example)," he writes, "things are much the same and life's quite primitive for the great mass of people."
The Larry Leavitts and Rad Tanzers recently attended a College Chapel Service to hear Jim Crawford '58, son of our Harry Crawford, deliver a remarkably fine message. Jim was billed as "one of the ministers of" the East Harlem Protestant Parish in New York City. Part of his responsibility is to seek and engage people in action and service outside the traditional- structure of the church and to seek new structures for service within the metropolitan condition."
Bob Misch, our noted oenologist, gave a lecture recently in Alumni Hall on "Fine Domestic Wines." The talk was sponsored by the French Club and was followed by a wine-tasting session. Frank Kennedy had an opportunity to relive some of his World War II experiences by boarding the "USS Independence," the attack carrier just returned from Viet Nam, to observe modern-day carrier operations during maneuvers off Cape Hatteras for a period of a fortnight.
Twelve members of the class gathered at the annual Boston Alumni Association dinner early in February to hear President Dickey, Bob Blackman, and the Glee Club. Present were: the Dutch Clarks, Johnnie Garrod, the Bob McCreadys, the Chet Eatons, the Woody Wilsons, the Herb Talbots, the Bill Sleighs, the Hal Elders, Dr. Jack Spring, Larry Bankart, the Bunny Levisons and Jock Brace.
