The 1965 Joshua A. Davis Trophy, given to the Head Class Agent making the greatest improvement in a single Alumni Fund campaign, was awarded to Harold H. Lounsberry '15 (r) at the annual Alumni Fund Class Agents Dinner in Boston on March 24. In presenting the award Fund Chairman Rupert C. Thompson Jr. '28 (1) read the following citation:
This year, the selection of the winner for the Joshua A. Davis Trophy to the Head Agent of a Class making the greatest improvement m a single campaign is so simple and obvious that it should be a secret to no one. Last year, in the context of your 50th Reunion, you rallied your classmates to an unprecedented achievement of over $58,000, well over double the amount which 1915 had ever given before and the largest dollar total ever recorded by a 50-year class; indeed, the third largest sum ever raised by any class. That it was a classwide achievement is evidenced by a grand new record of 139 percent in participation, naturally including a heartwarming representation of memorial gifts from 1915's uniquely loyal and active widows. These combined records added up to a convincing Group II Green Derby victory, the third such victory in your six-year tenure as Head Class Agent. During this time you have continually improved 1915's standing through such innovations as a class matching gift fund and a widows' chairman. Your efforts have certainly been richly rewarding for the Alumni Fund, your Class and the College. So it is eminently fitting that we reward and recognize you, and all the grand Class of 1915 fellowship, by presenting to you, in behalf of the College and the Alumni Fund Committee, the Joshua A. Davis Trophy Award for 1965.
