With all of the 40th pictures that have been pouring in, I am increasingly apprehensive as to just how soon your "40th Pine Tree Reunion Report" will be in your hands.

The great joys of Reunion were quickly dampened by news of the passing of MarshMcGough, Hitch Hitchcock, and RedCleveland in rapid succession. Hitch and Red had been with us at the 40th and it was unbelievable that death had come so soon. Coggy Broer wrote the notice on Hitch, and Si Morand that for Marsh.

Marion and I helped virtually the whole town of Torrington say goodbye to Red. Reg Horton was there, had been in Europe at Reunion time following the loss of his wife last spring. Those of you who heard Nick Carter conduct the class memorial service can understand just how very much he contributed to Red's service.

27's first opportunity to inspect the health and well being of our New Pine will come October 12 and 14 at the Fall Reunion. Chairman Phil Fowler will, by now, have sent a proper notice to you - but Dartmouth Night, Injunaires, Class Meeting, Perm Game, and a report of Al Foley's 40th appearance plus Hanover in her fall raiment should get your wheels rolling North.

Hey, what do you know! Paul RevereO'Connell, '27's night club MC and worldwide golfer, got himself a hole in one on August 22 while scoring a 73, in the Massachusetts Senior Golf Championship! Paul went as far as the semi-finals where he carried his opponent to 19 holes. Many congratulations, Paul.

Our Assistant Fall Reunion Chairman, Lovey Lovegrove had a fling with his heart - after a while in the hospital during Reunion, he is home and we hope will be able to join us at the Sunset in October.

Chuck Brewster and Frances returned from Honolulu for a summer vacation in Georgetown, Me., meeting Nick Carter and Betty for a small reunion. George Marks retired June 30 to golf and some traveling and spoiling his first grandchild. Joe Calgani says he had to report white as color of hair on his driver's license renewal without benefit of Eleazar's powdered wig.

Notes from Ding Heap's wife Lee and Larry Scammon bring the sad news of the sudden death of Les Baffin's wife. Les retired June 1, and a note from you to him at 16 Sandra Road, East Walpole, Mass., would be a great lift.

You received the final news of the Alumni Fund and the great job '27 did under SamWormser's gentle but most effective reminders to all of us. 12% more than last year is a tribute to '27 and to Sam and his assistant agents. You will be glad to hear that Sam is willing to carry on this heavy responsibility.

You refugees from the snows of the North to the sands of Florida will be glad to hear that big Art Keleher, now in Dunedin, is your new regional chairman.

The grandfather derby came to a temporary close at Reunion with the presentation to Elmer Zimmerman, nine grandchildren, of a bottle of Old Grandad with his photograph at the center of the label. SidVoice and his Consolidated Lithographing Company was well prepared; he had similar labels complete with pictures of Vic Duplin and Marty Heifer in case they showed. Labels were subsequently mailed, without bottles. Did you know the beautiful printing job of Bill North's story, "The Old Pine and The New," was courtesy of same SidneyVoice? Sid, the class is greatly appreciative.

Hope Don Gardner is back on a full schedule. He missed the 40th for a small repair job. Doc Greener is editor of "Squeak and Squawk," University Glee Club of N. Y. Newsletter. (Doc) Tom Anglem brought his new bride, the former Marion Evans Mahoney, to reunion. Speaking of our doctors, did you know (Doc) Jack Draper became a trustee of Mystic Seaport as a result of applying his medical diagnostic techniques to a whale's gallbladder. Yes, I said a whale. Enuf this time, see you in October.
