NOVEMBER 1967

The 50th anniversary of the Russian Revolution was observed by the College last month with a four-day Russian Weekend, October 19-21. A number of distinguished visiting professors took part in a symposium, "The Soviet Union and the West Evolving Contrasts and Convergences," and the Hopkins Center mounted a special program of Russian art, music, theater, and films.

The symposium was sponsored by the Department of Russian Language and Literature, with the help of the Student Council for International and Comparative Studies. Prof. J. P. Nettl of New York University was the keynote speaker for the weekend, and other Russian specialists who participated were Profs. Joseph Berliner of Brandeis, George Fisher of Columbia, George Gibian of Cornell, Thompson Bradley of Swarthmore, Uri Ra'anan of M.1.T., and Robert Daniels of the University of Vermont. Prof. Henry L. Roberts of the Dartmouth History Department was the speaker at the conference dinner.

A concert by the Yale Russian Chorus highlighted "the music program, and the Dartmouth Players' production of Chekov's Uncle Vanya was the theater offering. A two-week Russian film festival led up to the Russian Weekend.
