Top of the Hop glowed for three weeks in November with the clear acrylic colors of "Recent Paintings" by Michael King '57, chairman of the art department at North Andover's Brook School, who is shown above with one of his paintings on the opening day of the Dartmouth exhibition.
The large canvases, with hard-edged figures and bright Pop hues, reflect rebellious youth, albeit a cool rebellion. "The Pad" (above) is one of two paintings in the collection where the artist employs several colors; the rest are done in shades of one hue.
Artist King has also exhibited his work recently in a one-man show at Governor Dummer Academy; Jordan Marsh's 38th Exhibition of New England Artists; and a show by the Massachusetts Council on the Arts and Humanities.
