Tuck School
DECEMBER 1967 BOB KIMBALL T'48

I don't know what happened to the last month but time sure flies by here in Hanover. The School always gets off to a running start and this year is no exception. You will be happy to know that the students are still complaining about the impossible work load in the first term and that unannounced hour exams still throw a dash of fear into the hearts of the first-year class. In other words, everything is normal, but it seems to these old tired eyes that the pace certainly has stepped up. When you add to the student picture the increased involvement of the faculty with a great multitude of companies and the significant research in which many of them are involved, you find a busy and exciting institution. We have been delighted to welcome many alumni to the School within the past several months and hope that more of you will visit during the coming year.

On the alumni front, Steven Roth T'63 has been appointed vice president and general partner of Kenilworth Associates, builders of industrial plants in New York and New Jersey. Steve was an instructor at Tuck before entering the real estate business several years ago. Carl Haffenreffer '30 has been named president of the Narragansett Brewing Company and a member of the board of directors of the Falstaff Brewing Corporation. The Haffenreffers are third generation members of a family which has been synonymous with the brewing industry since 1870. George Gebhardt T'65 has been appointed a marketing staff assistant for Baxter Laboratories, Inc. in Morton Grove, Ill.

Arthur Carter T'59 has been elected a director of the Standard Prudential United Corporation, a factoring and equipment leasing company. Arthur is president of Carter, Berlind and Weill, Inc., members of the New York Stock Exchange.

Earlier in the summer, Howard N. New-man T'57, associate administrator of the Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia, was selected by President Johnson to serve as a White House Fellow. This program was inaugurated several years ago to provide a year of "firsthand experience in the process of governing the nation and a sense of personal involvement in the leadership of the society" to a small number (about' 15 per year) of individuals. I believe that Howard is the first Dartmouth alumnus to be so honored.

Geoffrey Maclay T'47 has been elected President of the Board of Trustees, University School of Milwaukee. Richard Rush T'38 has assumed the duties of chairman of the Department of Banking and Finance at the American University in Washington.

Before I go any further, I should attempt to catch up with some of the large number of weddings and engagements that have been reported. I realize that I run the risk of leaving out many alumni who have taken this step in the past several months but can merely report on those that come to our attention. Peter Trinkle T'57, who is with Esso International in New York, was recently married to Miss Benita Bryant. William McElnea T'48 married Miss Barbara Langmaster in July. Dix Davis T'60 surprised all his bachelor friends by marrying Miss Sara Beebee of Englewood, N. J.

Arthur Looney T'63 married Miss Carol Whetham in July and immediately left on a wedding trip to Hawaii and Tokyo. They are residing in Lansing, Mich. Chuck Baldwin T'67 was recently married to Miss Ann Moody.

More announcements next month. In the meantime, more on business. The Irving Trust Company has announced the election of Robert Bolinger T'62 and John WetzelT'56 as assistant vice presidents. Don Taylor T'47 has been promoted to vice president at the Rhode Island Hospital Trust Company. Doug Perkins T'54 left his post as assistant treasurer at Dartmouth to become assistant to the president at Baypath Junior College near Springfield, Mass.

That's the story for this month. Hope to see more of you in the news and here in Hanover. Best regards from the hills.
