A small but enthusiastic turnout helped Deans John Hennessey and Bob Kimball enjoy a most pleasant evening in Chicago recently. Tom Donahoe T'58 and his coworkers provided a lovely setting at the Chicago Yacht Club and all present joined in a lively question and answer period following Dean Hennessey's report on activities, past, present and future, at the Tuck School. Chicago alumni are planning other events for this year, so watch for announcements and join your fellow alumni for an interesting evening.
Speaking of Chicago alumni, I neglected to report earlier that Gerry Glascow T'65 and Dick Bnnkart T'67 have been promoted to product managers at Armour-Dial. Gerry joined Armour after military service and Dick moved right from Hanover into the Windy City. Al Wagner T'50 has been named an assistant vice president in the investment department of American Mutual Liability Insurance Co. after joining the company in 1968. John Schalles T'51 has joined Owens-Corning Fiberglas Corp. in Toledo. After leaving the Inmont Corp., John will be with the transportation, equipment and appliance division at Owens-Corning.
Noting a new Hanover appointment, Merle Hagen T'46 has joined the development staff of Dartmouth College with responsibility for developing resources for the William Jewett Tucker Foundation. Merle has been senior research analyst with the New York headquarters of the Pepsi-Cola Co. He is presently a captain in the U.S. Naval Reserves and has completed all course work and examinations toward his Ph.D. in education and business administration at Syracuse University.
Tom Hewitt T'62 has joined Thorne United Inc. in Addison, Ill., as controller. Prior to joining Thorne, Tom was a senior accountant with the Chicago office of Ernst and Ernst. John Cunningham T'66 has been promoted to product manager at Wang Laboratories in Massachusetts. John started with Oxford Paper upon graduation from Tuck and joined Wang Laboratories in Chicago where he became district manager before transferring to company headquarters as a product analyst. Bill Cogbill T'65 has been promoted from product manager to marketing manager, disposable soft goods at Kendall Company in Chicago.
Anthony M. Frank T'64 is in the news again. Retaining the chairmanship of the San Francisco Home Loan Bank, Frank was recently elected president of INA Properties and named a vice president of the parent INA Corp. of Bala-Cynwyd, Pa., holding company of Insurance Company of North America and other insurance interests. He was previously president of Titan Group, Inc., a Los Angeles-based real estate firm. Stephen Elson T'62 has been appointed director of marketing at The Erno Laszlo Institute in New York. Steve will be responsible for advertising, promotion and administrative marketing activities of The Institute, which is a subsidiary of Chesebrough-Pond's Inc. He was with the parent company for several years and prior to that was with Grey Advertising.
Robert F. Heilmann T'57, formerly outdoor advertising supervisor for Cities Service Oil Co., has been named promotion services manager. Having held various positions in advertising and credit, Bob transferred to the company's Tulsa headquarters in 1968. Hildreth Auer T'28, president and chairman of the Maiden Trust Co., added to his activities recently when he was elected membership chairman of the Foundation for Full Service Banks.
Richard B. Osgood T'59, financial vice president of Paine Furniture Co. of Boston, has been elected to the Board of Trustees of Governor Dummer Academy in Massachusetts. Still on the academic front, we are also delighted to announce that Gerald S. Witherspoon, the former Vermont Tax Commissioner and Visiting Professor of Public Policy at the Tuck School, has recently assumed the presidency of Goddard College in Plainfield, Vt. Mr. Witherspoon, who was a key member of the Vermont Governor's Staff for several years, is one of the nation's
youngest college presidents. John J. Louis Jr. T'49, chairman of the board of Combined Communications Corp. and associate owner of the Atlanta Braves among many other affiliations, has been elected to the board of trustees of Northwestern University. In addition to being active on several hospital boards, John is a trustee of Deerfield Academy and is on the Citizens Board of the University of Chicago. John blends an interest in business and education quite successfully.
Best regards from the hills.
