A. Alexander Fanelli '42, who back in 1947-49 was an Instructor in Sociology at the College, has returned to the campus as Special Assistant to President Dickey. He came to Hanover from Washington, D. C., where he was Cultural Affairs Adviser in the U.S. Information Agency.
As Special Assistant to the President, Mr. Fanelli will have responsibilities as executive secretary of the Trustees Planning Committee and as President Dickey's representative on special projects in the areas of community affairs, internationally-oriented college-wide programs, the Bicentennial, capital fund raising, and other future developments.
In his ten years with the Government, Mr. Fanelli was a Research Officer in the American Embassy in Rome and was Chief, West Coast Programs, Office of Inter-American Programs, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, Department of State. In the latter capacity he handled educational exchanges, Fulbrights and others, with five South American countries.
Before his Government service he was an Assistant Professor of Sociology at Mississippi State College, 1952-56, and a teaching fellow at the University of Michigan, 1949-51. He received his A.B. from the College in 1946 after returning from four years of service with the Army Air Force in World War II, then gained his M.A. in Sociology from the College in 1948.
