First things due this month are a couple of apologies. To Pat Gramm goes one for the misspelling of his name last month. I know, though, Walter, that you'll forgive me. I really do know how to spell and I don't know how that happened.

Up in Brunswick, Me., Harvey Elliot has joined the staff of the Brunswick TimesRecord as city editor covering news of the Bath area: Harvey has been a writer-photographer since 1959, three years with the Maine State departments of agriculture and fish and game. For the last four years he was with Creative Associates, a Portland public relations firm. Harvey, his wife and two little ones live in North Yarmouth, Me.

And thanks go this month to two of the Dartmouth Fellowships outside our immediate class circle. Carlton Ward '32 Secretary-Treasurer of the Dartmouth Alumni Association of Northern California and Nevada has sent me a very interesting clipping from a San Francisco paper about NicholasSkylor. When a Russian oceanographic ship put in at San Francisco, Nick and his family entertained the scientists from the ship at a reception in their home. Nick is a member of the International Hospitality Center in S. F. and also speaks fluent Russian, so you can easily see why he was elected to entertain these distinguished visitors in their stopover.

The other piece of news from a Dartmouth friend outside the Class comes from Dr. Don Cole, secretary of the Class of '45 (and it isn't the first time you've helped me, Don).

The news is that Van M. Stevens Jr. has been appointed corporate advertising director of the Raytheon Company. Van had been advertising manager for Raytheon's Components Division. And before joining Raytheon he held several advertising positions with one of my good clients, Westinghouse Electric Corp. In his new position Van will be responsible for planning and implementing advertising and promotional programs as an integral part of the company's overall public relations activities.

It has been an eventful year for the Rev.Elmer Sullivan. As I reported previously he married, on Feb. 4, Jean Louise Carhart. And directly after that he took on a new assignment. Previously pastor of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Ewing, New Jersey, Father Sullivan is now pastor of St. Augustine's Episcopal Church in Elizabeth; thus he becomes the first white rector of a predominantly Negro church in the New Jersey Episcopal Diocese. When you consider that it was the Negro parishioners who elected to call Father Sullivan it speaks loudly of his understanding and pioneering ideas in the harmonious relationship among all people.

And also, a couple of months back I reported a new item on Bill Kay which, it seems, was one news item late. I said he was a new member of the Board of Pepperidge Farms and in the same issue of the magazine under the Wah-Hoo-Wahs they reported his new election as president of Rival Pet Foods in Chicago. We do have a new member of the Young Presidents Association and it is Bill Kay, president of Rival Pet Foods. Rival is located in Chicago, though it is a subsidiary of Associated Products, Inc., New York. So Bill is currently commuting between Chicago and Weston, Conn., where he left Sandy and their two kids for a short spell. In fact, I'm sure by the time you read this the whole family will be located in Hinsdale, Ill., where, Bill informs me, they have contracted for a home. So a Wah-Hoo-Wah from us '52's. A little late, maybe, but a big one nevertheless.

On the academic scene, Paul Taylor recently completed the requirements for his Ph.D. in History at Harvard and has now accepted a post as Assistant Professor of History at Sweet Briar College in Virginia.

I should also be able to see Al Fiertz once in a while now. His company, Booz, Allen & Hamilton, just moved into the new building directly across the street from my office.

Two more items from Boston about two classmates who made this column recently and are back for quick repeats. Steve Parkhurst (left) hadn't been vice president of the New England Merchants National Bank of Boston long before that wise body, their Board of Directors, named him comptroller in addition. And the Eastern Gas and Fuel Associates didn't leave Bob Weinig (right) assistant to the president for long either. They've now made him controller in addition. That was quick work by both of you. Congratulations!

And Buck Henry Zuckerman (Buck Henry, to TV enthusiasts) has a new show on the tubes — I just learned. It's 'Captain Nice." Haven't seen it but the kids have.

And with that I'm out of news and energy. I'll leave you with one pleasant reminder. Get your contribution in to the Alumni Fund before the end of June. In fact, why not do it right now?
