Hanover haberdashers may soon discover that blue shirts are as "in" as crazy hats, for with the College's new videotape equipment students are going "on camera" right in the classroom. With the help of the Office of Instructional Services faculty members are studying the varied possibilities in using this equipment to enhance course work.
Student presentations in Speech courses, for instance, have been recorded on the Instructional Services' Ampex 7100 Videotape and have been replayed immediately after for instructive evaluation. Similar experiments in recording student presentations at Tuck School are being done with the School's new Sony equipment.
The videotape recorder can also be used for recording special events such as was done for three sessions of the recent Conference on Language and the Formation of National Consciousness and for recording network shows for later showings in classroom situations. Marshall McLuhan's The Medium Is the Massage on NBC was recorded while the students were vacationing and was used upon their return in Professor William Smith's psychology class with such effectiveness that the other instructors were soon on the phone requesting reruns.
