The College has received $25,000 from Mrs. Gertrude B. Wright of Hanover, widow of Prof. William Kelley Wright, to establish the Nathaniel Wright Family Library Endow- ment Fund. Professor Wright was a descendant of Nathaniel Wright, one of Hanover's earliest settlers who donated land in 1770 to encourage the founding of Dartmouth College in Hanover.

The late Professor Wright received both his A.B. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Chicago and joined the Dartmouth faculty in 1916. He was appointed a full professor in 1923 and held the Stone Professorship of Intellectual and Moral Philosophy prior to his retirement in 1947.

The income of the Nathaniel Wright Family Library Fund is available to support the study of local history and genealogy through the acquisition, preservation, publication, and administration of historical resources, including those related to the College and the Town of Hanover.

Mrs. Wright's son, Stanley Proctor Wright '42, was killed in action in Bougainville during World War 11. Her grandson, Stanley Wright Brown '67, is a descendant of Dartmouth's third president, Francis Brown, Class of 1805, and a son of Sanford C. Brown, Class of 1935.
