Having reviewed Algebra, a revision of an Algebra I text by the same authors (see ALUMNI MAGAZINE, March 1967), I was pleased to see this text follow close behind in publication. I am also pleased to see that the same changes effected in the revision of the Algebra I text have been carried into this revision of their Algebra II text.
The text has been reorganized to present a much more convenient sequence of ideas. The topic of complex numbers, for example, is included relatively early in the text so as to provide the opportunity to use associated ideas in subsequent discussions.
As with the revision of the Algebra I text, the most striking change is in the general layout of the pages. The colors are more restful on the eyes; the graphs are clearer to read; the three-dimensional drawings (particularly in the chapter on Conic Sections) are especially clear and precise. In general, with its chapters on Vector Algebra and Logic to challenge the capable student, and its clear development of ideas to aid all students, the entire book is a highly teachable and much improved text for teaching second year Algebra and Trigonometry in the secondary schools.
