Our annual meeting, April 7, at the Sheraton-Palace Hotel, was a big success. Including wives and friends we were 155 strong and gave our Hanover and Cincinnati visitors a warm welcome. Ralph Lazarus '35 spoke briefly on the Alumni Fund, while Mike McGean '49 and Cliff Jordan '45 helped with the Fund workers' meetings prior to the dinner. President Dickey '29 gave us a bit of background on the reasons for the Dartmouth College case and then carried the story forward to explain why Dartmouth, while a college by name, is a university in practice.
New Club officers, elected by acclaim, are: President, Bob King '57; vice-presidents, Wayne Cliff '55, Ron Knapp '65, and Howard Pennington '44; secretary-treasurer, Carl Ward '32; assistant secretary, DickGale '60; and assistant treasurer, Bob Allen'33. Ben Webb '40, our outgoing president, briefly reviewed the year's activities and Bob King, the incoming prexy, promised to try to outdo Ben in activities. Among the announced plans are: Bob Blackman on Tuesday, July 11 (changed from June 23 as originally announced) for a dinner meeting, time and location to be chosen shortly. Watch for the details. We expect a big turnout for this one. Then on Saturday, August 5, we will hold our annual picnic at Angel Island in San Francisco Bay. This outing has always been popular and offers an opportunity for the youngsters to join in Dartmouth activities.
Pete Zischke '52 is stepping down this fall as National Enrollment Committeeman to be succeded by Jack Clow '52. Many thanks to Pete for the many fine delegations he has helped send to Hanover over the past ten years or so. President Dickey expressed the College's thanks to Pete and presented him with a copy of the new Dartmouth history. To Jack our warm support and we anticipate even more work in the future for the Hanover selection committee.
Come join us any Wednesday at the Iron Horse on Maiden Lane in San Francisco. We meet for lunch every week at noon, upstairs.
