For the current academic year, Prof. John W. Finch, chairman of the Drama Department, has been named chairman of the Humanities Division, and James Cox, professor of English, has been appointed associate dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. The two posts had been held concurrently for the past eighteen months by Lawrence E. Harvey, Professor of Romance Languages, who is on leave this year to study in Italy under a Fulbright faculty fellowship.
Professor Finch, who is the William R. Keenan Professor of Distinguished Teaching in English, will continue to serve as chairman of the Drama Department in addition to his new responsibiliment
Professor Cox has earned distinction as a scholar of American literature. Recently he was the recipient of the Danforth Award for outstanding teaching, and two years ago he was awarded a Dartmouth College Faculty Fellowship for study and research on the impact of American letters in Europe. He has written a book about Mark Twain and currently is writing one about Hawthorne.
