Recently Ruth Hodgkins, daughter of "Lem" Hodgkins, had a most enjoyable family reunion in Phoenix with other members of the family. Besides Ruth and her husband there were present on this occasion: the Williams family who live in Phoenix; Ruth's sister, Virginia and family from San Antonio, Texas; and Lem's sister, Dorothy and husband from California. For Ruth and her husband it was a pleasant interlude from our New England winter as well as a very pleasant family gathering. We salute Ruth as a most loyal, consistent, and devoted member of the 1900 family.
Sidney Phillips, son of Julian Phillips, has joined the faculty of Northeastern University in Boston where he again has the privilege of working with graduate students. It is interesting to note that he was formerly a professor at Northwestern University in Evanston. Ill. The Phillips family now live in Andover, Mass., and Sidney ordinarily finds the commuting between Boston and Andover a pleasurable experience. Sidney's three children are all engaged in a variety of activities. Carl, the older son, who is 6 feet 3 inches tall and still growing, is a member of the sophomore class at Dartmouth. Besides his ordinary curriculum duties he finds time to sing in the Glee Club, to be a member of a hunting and fishing group and to increase his proficiency on his guitar. Carl is the fourth generation of the Phillips family to be enrolled in Dartmouth. Patricia, a thirteen-year-old young lady in the eighth grade, was recently initiated into the mystic order of the Rainbow Girls. Her mother says that she is a perfectly normal teen-age daughter who only occasionally thinks and acts as if she were 21. In these changing times every mother of a teen-age daughter certainly knows what this means. Scott, the younger son, is now in the 6th grade and is an eager beaver in the Boy Scout organization in his community. It can be seen that the Phillips family is a wholesome, normal, vigorous representative of the best in our New England tradition.
It seemed best this year for Ned andHelen Bigelow to sit out in their Worcester, Mass., home the rigorous northern winter. Previously for many years they have enjoyed the less vigorous climate of Florida. Customarily from November to April they have been guests at the Vinoy-Park Hotel in St. Petersburg, Fla. I am sure the management and the guests of this hotel have missed the gracious presence of these good people.
I regret to report the recent death, at the Charlottesville, Va., Nursing Home, of Mrs. Florence B. Eaton, wife of "Pa" Eaton. At the time of her passing she was ninety-two years of age.
