Appreciation Award to ABC
APRIL 1968

The Western Electric Company has presented a $2000 Appreciation Award to the Dartmouth-sponsored ABC Project. ABC, designed to give underprivileged but promising secondaryschool students "A Better Chance" educationally, began at Dartmouth in 1963 with financial support from the Rockefeller Foundation. The eight-week intensive summer study program prepares more than fifty youths annually to enroll in leading prep schools and in the public high schools of Hanover and Andover, Mass. Next fall, other high schools, including Lebanon, N. H., will be brought into the program.

Seeing ABC in action in Andover this past year led personnel at Western Electric's Merrimack Valley Works to nominate the program for the Appreciation Award. The $2000 contribution will be used to advance the work of ABC.

Two of the boys studying at Hanover High School this year in the Dresden Project ABC have been granted early admission to Dartmouth and will enroll with the Class of 1972 next fall.
