At the annual Alumni Fund Class Agents dinner in New York City on April 3, Frederic A. Davidson '14 (r) distinguished engineer, received a Dartmouth Alumni Award from the Dartmouth Alumni Council. FREDERIC ARMSTRONG DAVIDSON '14

Your significant contribution to the material world - the perfection of tubular steel scaffolding - made it possible for men safely to climb higher and, as a top executive officer of a refinery, your sugar kept their "appestats" turned down but, at the same time, provided these men with the energy necessary to build the great modern monuments of glass, brick, and steel. Equally important, your work on the Boards of the Y.M.C.A., the Boy Scouts, and the Boys Club, as elder of your church, as president of the New Rochelle Board of Education, and in many positions of responsibility with the College and your Class is representative of even greater degrees of service for man's individual betterment.

Yours is truly a Dartmouth family - two younger brothers, three cousins, two nephews, all three of your sons, a grandson, and your only daughter, who went to Mt. Holyoke and may, by osmosis, become a Dartmouth graduate -coordinate if the current Hanover-South Hadley axis continues to develop. Nepotism and the trend toward coeducation may account for these, but credit for the enrollment of your wife's brother is given to Louise without whose hearty cooperation and devotion to the College your enrollment record would not be so outstanding.

There have been few Dartmouth and class activities with which you have not had some connection during the past fifty years. You are in your fourth year as Head Agent for the Alumni Fund. Despite a declining class membership, 1914 set new dollar records in both 1965 and 1966 and you did a particularly effective job in obtaining memorial gifts from widows and relatives of 1914 men. Your wise counsel as one of the Overseers of Thayer School, your leadership as president of the Dartmouth Society of Engineers, and your faithful work as chairman of your Fiftieth Class Reunion have earned the affection and respect of your classmates and the gratitude of Dartmouth.

In lasting appreciation of your dedication to the College, it is our honor to present to you the Dartmouth Alumni Award.
