Wesley H. Beattie '33 was honored as Class President of the Year at the annua] meeting of Dartmouth class officers in Hanover, May 11. The following citation accompanied the award:
Wes, your participation in this sort of ceremony is becoming a habit. Six years ago you were named Class Secretary of the Year following a year as President of the Class Secretaries Association. Having reached the top in that activity your Class started you on a different road to another summit by electing you its President.
That you should be chosen as Class President of the Year within five years surprises no one. Being president, assistant to the president, chairman, deacon, colonel, or whatever they call the top jobs, is Standard Operating Procedure whenever you are involved, be it College, Class or Club, church, community, chemical business or warfare. Your peers in all activities consider you very tough competition. They have little chance to beat you to the top.
Over the years you have been President of the Boston Alumni Association and the Melrose Club, a long-time member of enrollment and interviewing committees and a Class Agent. It is clear that there are few College alumni activities in which you have not participated actively. As Class President you have initiated and done an outstanding job of coordinating many class projects.
With abiding appreciation for all your varied activities carried out so well for the College and your Class, we congratulate and salute you as Dartmouth Class President of the Year.
